Cambé school leadership removed after hidden cameras found in bathrooms
The administration of the Érico Veríssimo Civic-Military State College in Cambé, Paraná, has been removed from their positions following the discovery of hidden cameras in female bathrooms. Students reported that the devices had been present for approximately three years, during which time school officials allegedly claimed they were merely smoke detectors intended to prevent vaping and smoking.
The discovery led to protests by students and parents, as well as reports that security monitors showed footage of bathroom stalls and mirrors. While the school administration maintained that cameras were only aimed at entrance doors to monitor access, students and parents expressed concerns regarding the violation of privacy and the potential recording of students changing clothes.
In response to the incident, the Paraná State Secretary of Education, Rony Miranda, ordered the removal of the school's leadership and issued a resolution prohibiting the installation of cameras in any bathrooms or changing rooms within the state school network. The Civil Police of Paraná have opened an investigation to determine the purpose of the equipment, who had access to the recordings, and whether privacy laws were violated.
