Cambados health centre staff overwhelmed as promised field hospital remains unused

During the Festa do Albariño in Cambados, the local Punto de Atención Continuada (PAC) was inundated with patients, overwhelming its staff. A field hospital that had been announced and funded by the municipality was never made operational; the assigned personnel arrived at night only to find the facility limited to a mobile ICU and refused to provide services. Nurse Silvia Lema Pedreira reported that repeated calls for assistance to the mayor and health councilor Antonio Gómez Caamaño received no response, leaving the temporary tent closed overnight. The intended purpose of the camp was to treat minor ailments related to the festival—such as alcohol intoxication and minor injuries—so that the PAC could focus on serious emergencies. With the camp unavailable, public‑health workers were forced to handle the full surge, leading to extreme fatigue and frustration among the team.
