Cambodia adjusts Funan Techo Canal route in Takeo province
Authorities in Cambodia's Takeo province are adjusting the route of the Funan Techo Canal project to minimize the impact on local land, property, and residents. Takeo Governor Vei Samnang recently supervised the installation of 142 new markers and the removal of 19 existing ones to optimize the waterway's path.
The adjustments are part of the second phase of the project, which spans the provinces of Kampot, Kep, Takeo, and Kandal. While work in Kep and Kampot is complete, the Takeo segment is currently being finalized before teams move to Kandal. The 180 km canal is designed to pass through these four provinces, with approximately 58 km located within Takeo.
Phorn Rim, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, stated that construction and machinery deployment along the second segment are expected to begin once river levels recede later this year. Work will be conducted simultaneously across 11 locations, starting near the Bassac River in Kandal province.
