Cambodia and India expand tourism cooperation through ecotourism projects
Cambodia and India are strengthening bilateral tourism cooperation through the implementation of three Quick Impact Projects (QIPs). These initiatives, funded by the Government of India and coordinated by Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism, aim to promote community-based ecotourism and enhance destination visibility.
Two of the projects focus on supporting ecotourism communities in the Kampong Thom and Prey Veng provinces, specifically targeting the Phat Sanday Ecotourism Community and the Toul Poan Tali/Boeng Sneah community. The third project involves the development of a nationwide mobile application designed to promote Cambodian destinations and local tourism products.
The partnership seeks to distribute economic benefits to areas outside of established visitor hubs. This development follows discussions between Cambodia’s Minister of Tourism, Huot Hak, and the Indian Ambassador, Vanlalvawna Bawitlung. The initiative also aligns with efforts to increase Indian visitor arrivals, supported by the expected resumption of direct flights between Kolkata and Siem Reap by IndiGo Airlines.
