Cambodia sees 54% surge in domestic tourism as foreign arrivals tumble

Cambodia's Ministry of Tourism reports that 20.3 million Cambodians travelled within the country between January and May 2026, a 54.2 % increase over the same period in 2025. The growth is attributed to new tourism campaigns, expanded entertainment events and the development of community‑based sites.

International visitor numbers have dropped sharply, with total foreign arrivals falling 17 % to 5.57 million in 2025 and a further 45 % decline in the first quarter of 2026. Despite the slowdown, tourism revenue remained steady at nearly USD 3.9 billion in 2025, reflecting higher spending per visitor. Infrastructure investment continues, highlighted by the October 2025 opening of the $2 billion Techo International Airport, complementing the Siem Reap‑Angkor and Dara Sakor airports, which together handled about 5.7 million passengers in 2025.
