Camborne deputy mayor challenges councillor over party defection

The deputy mayor of Camborne, Cllr Reece Weatherburn, has called for the resignation of Cornwall Councillor Bruce Craze following his defection from Reform UK to the Restore Britain party. Weatherburn argues that Craze should step down to allow for a by-election, stating it is inappropriate for Craze to represent a division using a party that voters did not elect.

Cllr Craze, who represents Four Lanes, Beacon and Troon, defended his decision by claiming Reform UK had weakened its pledges and that Restore Britain better represents his values. He accused Weatherburn of “playing politics” and pursuing personal ambitions.

Reform UK leader at Cornwall Council, Cllr Paul Ashton, criticized the move, noting that the resignation followed discussions regarding Craze’s “ongoing poor performance” and lack of commitment to the party. Craze is the second councillor on Cornwall Council to join the relatively new Restore Britain party, following Roger Tarrant.
