TSMC and Cambricon report surging revenues amid AI chip demand
The semiconductor industry is seeing massive growth driven by artificial intelligence demand, as evidenced by record-breaking financial results from major chip players TSMC and Cambricon Technologies.
TSMC reported July revenue of approximately USD 16.03 billion, a 44.7% increase year-over-year. The company's cumulative revenue from January to July reached nearly USD 98.44 billion, up 37% compared to the previous year. Driven by high-performance computing demand from clients such as Nvidia and Apple, TSMC has raised its full-year 2026 revenue growth forecast to over 40% and increased its capital expenditure budget to a range of USD 60 billion to USD 64 billion.
In China, Cambricon Technologies also reported significant growth for the first half of 2026. The company's revenue reached 5.996 billion yuan, a 108% increase year-over-year, while net profit attributable to shareholders rose 123% to 2.311 billion yuan. Most of Cambricon's revenue is derived from cloud and data-center chips. While the company has achieved seven consecutive profitable quarters, it noted a sharp rise in inventory, reaching 8.25 billion yuan by the end of June, primarily consisting of raw materials and work-in-progress for its manufacturing pipeline.
