Cambridge driver jailed after high-speed police chase

Andrew Dunkley, 38, has been sentenced to 22 months in prison at Peterborough Crown Court following a high-speed police chase in Cambridgeshire. Dunkley pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, disqualified driving, and driving without insurance.

The incident occurred in the early hours of May 5, when Dunkley led officers on a chase through Trumpington in a Peugeot 207. During the pursuit, he reached speeds of 80mph in a 40mph zone, ran a red light, and attempted to reverse into a police vehicle before abandoning the car.

Dunkley, who was already serving a suspended sentence for a previous dangerous driving conviction, was later arrested in July after being found hiding in an abandoned caravan in Little Wilbraham. In addition to his prison term, he received a driving ban of three years and 10 months.
