Cambridgeshire and Leicestershire councils review housing and care home proposals

Granta Land Limited has submitted an Environmental Impact Assessment to South Cambridgeshire District Council for a development of up to 400 homes on a 26.27‑hectare site between Hinton Way and Mingle Lane in the village of Stapleford, near Cambridge. The plan includes affordable housing, vehicle and cycle parking, a children's play area and is located within flood zone one with a very low surface‑water flood risk. The proposed homes would be about 800 m from Shelford railway station, offering regular services to Cambridge and London.

Melton Borough Council in Leicestershire is set to consider a proposal to convert a house on Wallis Close in Melton into a children's care home for up to three children aged eight to 17, with 24‑hour staffing. Residents and councillors have raised objections over existing parking pressures, safeguarding concerns and the risk of anti‑social behaviour, describing the site as an “accident waiting to happen”.
