Cambrils honors Siscu Morell following his death
Siscu Morell, a prominent figure in the fight against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), has passed away at the age of 60 after a five-year battle with the disease. Morell was widely recognized for his commitment to raising awareness and funds for ALS research through various social initiatives.
In recognition of his impact, the Cambrils City Council has declared three days of official mourning. The council is also proposing to rename the municipal sports complex and the municipal football stadium in his honor to preserve his legacy for future generations. Mayor Oliver Klein noted that Morell turned a difficult personal situation into a collective cause that mobilized thousands.
Morell was a driving force behind the Swim for ELA organization. The group highlighted his role as an emotional engine for the project, which aims to involve the community in solidarity efforts. Recent initiatives, such as the fourth Swim for ELA crossing between Calafat and Cambrils, successfully raised over 102,000 euros for the cause.
