Cambrils removes trees to improve sidewalk accessibility

The Cambrils City Council has removed trees from Cristòfor Colom Street as part of an initiative to improve sidewalk accessibility. The council plans to carry out similar actions on València Street to address the presence of tree species that are unsuitable for these specific urban environments.

According to Enrique Arce, the Councilor for General Services, the trees were originally planted without sufficient consideration for their eventual size or proximity to building facades, causing issues for residents in ground-floor apartments. Additionally, the east-west orientation of the streets and existing building shadows limited the sunlight necessary for the trees' healthy development.

Following the removal, the curb extensions will be covered to restore continuous pavement. This measure aims to recover usable sidewalk width, facilitating easier movement for pedestrians, particularly those using wheelchairs or other mobility aids. The council stated that the goal is to ensure high-quality public spaces by selecting appropriate tree species for each location.
