Kamelia Neykova appointed chief secretary of Bulgaria's Council of Ministers

Former chair of Bulgaria's Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Kamelia Neykova, has been appointed chief secretary of the Council of Ministers, according to Nova. The role coordinates the work of the cabinet, linking the prime minister, ministers and the state administration.

Neykova's career includes serving as deputy defence minister (2008‑2009) in Sergey Stanishev's government, membership in the CEC since 2009, heading the forced‑execution department of the National Revenue Agency (2010‑2012), and working as an assistant to the parliamentary legal commission. She was also deputy chair of the New Alternative party (2012‑2022) and was nominated to the CEC by the BSP‑led group in 2021.

Her appointment comes amid ongoing debates over Bulgaria's electoral code and voting procedures, with recent proposals to shift to fully electronic voting and discussions about paper‑ballot reintroduction.
