Camera Industry Stagnates, DSLR Sales Drop 37% in CIPA Report

The Camera & Imaging Products Association (CIPA) released its July 2026 data, showing that global camera shipments have essentially flat‑lined. DSLR units fell 37% and shipped value dropped 35%, marking the steepest decline among categories. Mirrorless cameras saw a 2% dip in units but a 6% rise in shipped value, indicating higher average prices. Compact cameras posted a 16% increase in units and a 15% rise in value, driven by renewed interest in models such as the Fujifilm X100VI and Ricoh GR IV.

Interchangeable‑lens shipments reached roughly 802,000 units in June, with year‑to‑date totals of 4.87 million, remaining flat versus the previous year. Overall digital camera shipments fell 94.9% month‑over‑month and 85.4% year‑over‑year, though the year‑to‑date shipped value grew 5% as consumers shift toward higher‑priced bodies.
