Cameron Boozer makes impactful NBA debut with Memphis Grizzlies
Memphis Grizzlies rookie Cameron Boozer recorded a historic plus-minus rating in his NBA debut against the Utah Jazz. Despite shooting only 2-of-15 from the field, Boozer finished with a +32 rating, setting an NBA record for the highest plus-minus in a debut. He also became the first player in league history to record a plus-minus of 30 or more while making two or fewer field goals on at least 10 attempts.
In addition to his rebounding and playmaking, Boozer contributed 11 rebounds and 5 assists with only one turnover. Grizzlies coach Tuomas Iisalo praised the 19-year-old’s defensive impact, specifically noting his ability to guard Lauri Markkanen. Iisalo remarked that Boozer demonstrates an understanding of the game that typically takes players a decade to master.
Prior to his debut, Boozer was ranked as the top rookie in preseason evaluations due to his high level of NBA readiness and all-around impact, following a standout collegiate career at Duke.
