Cameron Burgess ruled out for season with ruptured Achilles
Swansea City defender Cameron Burgess has been ruled out for the remainder of the EFL Championship season following a ruptured Achilles. The 30-year-old Australian international sustained the injury during an EFL Cup match against Birmingham City after landing awkwardly while challenging for a header.
Burgess, who played every minute of the previous campaign, is expected to undergo surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation process. Swansea head coach Vítor Matos confirmed the news, stating that the club will look to the transfer market to add defensive depth before the window closes. Potential replacements or rotation options include summer signing Stephen Welsh and academy product Filip Lissah.
The injury is a significant setback for the Socceroos, as Burgess was considered a key component of coach Tony Popovic’s plans for the upcoming Asian Cup in January.
