Cameron Joel Thompson found not guilty of targeting police with stolen car
A jury has found 32-year-old Cameron Joel Thompson not guilty of using a stolen vehicle as an offensive weapon against police in Dunmore. The verdict was reached in just 10 minutes on October 9.
The incident occurred on July 18, 2025, after police tracked a stolen white Mitsubishi ASX from Batemans Bay using AirPods. During a pursuit along the Princes Highway, Thompson allegedly drove into the wrong side of the road at the Tabbita Road exit.
Crown lawyer Sarah Love argued that Thompson’s actions were a “sustained, purposeful conduct directed against not one police vehicle but two,” claiming he deliberately steered toward officers to avoid detention. Defense lawyer Nicholas Allen contended that Thompson was merely attempting to escape a dangerous situation rather than using the car as a weapon.
