Cameron Munster allowed to negotiate with PNG Chiefs for 2028 debut

Queensland Maroons captain Cameron Munster, currently under contract with the Melbourne Storm through 2027, has been given permission to negotiate a move to the Papua New Guinea (PNG) Chiefs, the NRL's upcoming 19th team slated to begin competition in 2028. His agent Braith Anasta confirmed ongoing talks with PNG officials, noting interest from the expansion club while the Storm remain supportive of Munster’s options.

If the transfer materialises, Munster would join fellow marquee signing Jarome Luai in the Chiefs’ inaugural halves pairing. The Chiefs have already secured Alex Johnston, Connor Watson and are linked with other high‑profile players. Munster, sidelined with a knee injury, is expected to return later in the season, making the potential signing a major boost for the new franchise ahead of its first season.
