Cameroon agricultural exports see cocoa recovery and banana growth

Cameroon’s agricultural export sector shows divergent trends in cocoa and banana shipments. Telcar Cocoa has reclaimed its position as the country’s leading cocoa exporter for the 2025/2026 season, shipping 40,631 tonnes. This represents a 32.38% market share, recovering from a decline in the previous season following the end of its partnership with Cargill. However, overall cocoa exports for the country fell sharply to 125,469 tonnes, down from 192,013 tonnes the prior year, while export earnings dropped by 62.69% due to falling international prices.

In contrast, Cameroon’s banana exports saw significant growth, rising 34.1% in July 2026 to reach 20,577 tons compared to July 2025. The French group Compagnie Fruitière dominates this sector through its subsidiaries, Compagnie des Bananes de Mondoni and Plantations du Haut Penja, which together accounted for 82% of the month's exports. The state-owned Cameroon Development Corporation also reported a 7% increase in shipments, exporting 3,687 tons.
