Cameroon and United States sign health cooperation agreement
Cameroon and the United States have signed a Strategic Objectives Grant Agreement (SOAG) to strengthen the Cameroonian healthcare system. Signed in Yaoundé on October 1, 2026, the agreement aims to mobilize up to 510 billion FCFA between 2026 and 2030.
The cooperation framework focuses on moving beyond external aid toward a co-investment model, encouraging Cameroon to increase its own domestic health spending. Key priority areas include the fight against HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, as well as epidemiological surveillance, laboratory reinforcement, health data systems, and pharmaceutical supply chains. The initiative also targets the reduction of maternal and infant mortality.
