Cameroon Economy Minister pushes for rapid project implementation
During the second 2026 session of the Steering Committee in Yaoundé, Cameroon’s Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Alamine Ousmane Mey, urged officials to accelerate the transformation of public projects into tangible results with high social impact.
The meeting focused on two primary economic levers: the Integrated Import-Substitution Plan for Agropastoral and Fisheries (PIISAH) and the Labor-Intensive Approach (HIMO). Regarding HIMO, officials reported increased participation from women and youth, as well as the use of local materials like compressed earth blocks for infrastructure. In the North-West and South-West regions, the approach has also involved former separatist combatants to support local reintegration and development.
To strengthen these initiatives, recommendations were made to mandate the integration of HIMO into all public investments, including large-scale projects, and to incorporate HIMO modules into vocational and higher education curricula.
