Cameroon highway crash kills 16 and injures dozens
A fatal collision between a Mangwa Boy passenger bus and a timber truck in the Mbam-et-Inoubou region has resulted in at least 16 deaths and approximately 40 to 42 injuries. The accident occurred on the highway connecting Yaoundé and Bafoussam, specifically near Nomale.
Preliminary findings from the Ministry of Transport suggest the crash was caused by driver fatigue, excessive speed, and a lack of safety equipment on the bus. The vehicle reportedly struck other vehicles that were improperly parked or overloaded on the roadway.
In response, authorities have suspended the transport activities of Mangwa Boy, immobilized its fleet, and revoked the transport license of Mr. Tata Emmanuel. A fine of 5 million FCFA was issued for illegal transport practice, and the driver received a one-year license suspension. The government has announced reinforced inspections and the removal of illegally parked vehicles on major axes through late September to address ongoing structural road safety issues.
