Cameroon hit by road robbery in Logone Oriental and separatist attack in Bangourain

On 10 May 2026, armed bandits stopped a vehicle carrying traders near Bongbeti and Bolobo in the Logone Oriental region of Cameroon. The three motorbike‑mounted attackers seized 12,240,000 CFA francs without inflicting physical harm and fled. Local authorities, led by sub‑prefect Alhafis Djimet Idriss, opened an investigation and pledged to increase security in the area.

Later that night, heavily armed men identified as anglophone separatists entered the francophone village of Koumengba near Bangourain in western Cameroon. The intruders opened fire, killing one villager and forcibly abducting thirteen others. Witnesses said the attackers came from the nearby Anglophone Northwest region, crossing Lake Bamendji before reaching Bangourain. No official statement had been released by national authorities as of 48 hours after the incident.

Both incidents underscore heightened insecurity across different parts of Cameroon, prompting calls for stronger defence and security measures.
