Cameroon: Legal praise for Maurice Kamto and controversy over Samuel Eto’o

In Cameroon, legal expert Professor Jean Calvin Ba’a Oyono has praised the public law expertise of Maurice Kamto, describing him as a ‘master’ in the field despite political disagreements. Ba’a Oyono, a specialist in administrative and constitutional litigation, was previously detained for 42 days in Yaoundé following post-election tensions and is currently pursuing legal action regarding his arrest.

Separately, a controversy has emerged involving Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), and the Mouvement pour la renaissance du Cameroun (MRC). Lawyer Me Sikati has raised questions regarding the perceived double standard in public criticism, noting that while President Paul Biya’s regime faces scrutiny, criticism of Eto’o’s governance of FECAFOOT appears to be met with different social consequences. The tension follows claims by Eto’o that MRC members were attempting to destabilize his leadership through paid influencers.
