Cameroon Military Tribunal Links Businessman Amougou Belinga to Murder of Journalist Martinez Zogo
Colonel Jean‑Pierre Otoulou testified before the Yaoundé military tribunal, detailing an investigation that identified businessman Jean‑Pierre Amougou Belinga and his media chief Bruno Bidjang as the architects of the January 17 2023 kidnapping and killing of journalist Martinez Zogo. He referenced a WhatsApp message sent by Bidjang to Paul Daisy Biya promising a “day J” without mercy, surveillance footage that tracked DGRE operations director Justin Danwe to Belinga’s Ekang residence, and a financial pact sealed at Belinga’s home.
Danwe later altered his statement under questioning, directly implicating Belinga. The defense has disputed the consistency of Otoulou’s testimony, pointing to contradictions in the investigative record. The court adjourned the case to 2‑3 August 2026 for further cross‑examination of the colonel and other witnesses.
