Cameroon mobilizes for polio eradication and vaccination campaigns

In preparation for World Polio Day on October 24, 2026, various organizations in Cameroon are intensifying efforts to combat polio and improve child vaccination rates.

In Maroua, the Rotary Club of Maroua has partnered with the Regional Delegation of Public Health to conduct awareness campaigns at the Founangue District Medical Center. The initiative aims to educate parents on the importance of vaccination to prevent irreversible paralysis in children.

Additionally, UNICEF Cameroon has engaged members of the Indomitable Lionesses football team, including Nchout Njoya Ajara, Ange Gabrielle Bawou, and Doudou Ousmanou, to support the ‘End Polio’ campaign. This mobilization, led by UNICEF Representative Nadine Perrault, seeks to use the athletes' influence to boost community engagement and support field agents in the fight to eradicate the virus.
