Cameroon orders audit of Bini à Warak hydropower project

Cameroon has commissioned a CFA47.5 million technical and financial audit of the Bini à Warak hydropower project. The contract was awarded to a consortium comprising Brainstorm Consulting SARL, Moore Stephen CA, and Labogext.

The three-month audit aims to establish a clear picture of expenditures and physical progress since the project was originally awarded to China’s Sinohydro Corporation Limited in 2013. The investigation will review invoices submitted to the Cameroonian government and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), which provided $302.94 million in financing in 2016.

The project, intended to provide 75 MW of electricity to the Adamawa, North, and Far North regions, saw its financing suspended in 2019 following schedule delays. The government intends to use the audit results to determine the project’s technical and contractual standing before proceeding under a new development structure.
