International Day of Peace prompts calls for stability across Africa

On the International Day of Peace, various nations and organizations across Africa have emphasized the necessity of investing in peacebuilding, dialogue, and social cohesion.

In Cameroon, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Issa Sanogo called for collective efforts to maintain stability amidst ongoing separatist and Boko Haram-related conflicts. Conflict expert Robert Roger Ngangue also highlighted the need for negotiated political exits to resolve long-standing crises in the Northwest and Southwest regions.

In Chad, government officials and the UNDP urged citizens to view stability as a daily investment, particularly regarding the humanitarian challenges posed by the Sudanese crisis. Civil society groups in the country further called for increased vigilance against hate speech and disinformation.

Other regional developments include Togo preparing its 2026-2031 government roadmap focused on security and social cohesion, and the Republic of the Congo launching its 2027-2031 National Development Plan to prioritize human capital and economic diversification. In Nigeria, peace advocates in Plateau State conducted awareness walks to promote community engagement and reconciliation.
