Cameroon reports 5.8 billion FCFA in cybercrime losses

In Cameroon, the National Agency for Information and Communication Technologies (ANTIC) reported significant cybercrime losses for 2025. Prosper Pagou, an expert at the Computer Incident Response Team (CIRT), stated that the agency recorded 17,500 complaints resulting in a total financial loss of 5.8 billion FCFA.

An analysis of these complaints shows that social engineering is the primary threat. Specifically, scamming and phishing accounted for 71% of cases, followed by cyberbullying and defamation at 17%, account hacking at 10%, and cyber-extortion at 0.5%. Pagou emphasized that cybersecurity is essential for maintaining the trust required for digital economic development and reminded private sector actors of their legal obligation to report cybercrime incidents to ANTIC immediately.
