Cameroon sets daily cooking gas supply targets for Yaounde and Douala

Cameroon’s Minister of Water and Energy, Gaston Eloundou Essomba, has established daily cooking gas supply targets to address recent shortages. For Yaounde, the target is set at 200 metric tons per day, while the target for Douala is 220 metric tons.

During a visit to the Cameroon Petroleum Depots Company (SCDP) Nsam depot on September 30, the minister assessed supply chains and bottling capacities. The government aims to maintain these high volumes long enough to absorb accumulated demand and replenish distribution points. Authorities noted that recent shortages led to precautionary buying, which has kept demand elevated even as supplies improve.

To stabilize the market, the Ministry of Water and Energy (MINEE) has implemented new requirements for LPG importers, marketers, and distributors. These measures include mandatory adherence to delivery schedules and strict timelines for settling import invoices. While supply is improving, congestion at bottling facilities remains a constraint. To address infrastructure needs, a new carousel is expected to enter service in Yaounde by December.
