Cameroon women's football team wins first WAFCON title

The Cameroon women's national football team has secured its first-ever Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title. This victory marks a historic milestone for the nation, ending decades of near-misses in the tournament.

Cameroon had previously reached the WAFCON final on three occasions—in 2004, 2014, and 2016—losing each time. The 2016 loss in front of home fans at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium was noted as particularly painful. After failing to qualify for the 2024 tournament, the team regained its opportunity following the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) decision to expand the tournament to 16 teams.
