Camila Fremder discusses hormonal changes after hysterectomy

Writer and content creator Camila Fremder discussed how her relationship with her body changed following a hysterectomy due to endometriosis. Speaking on the program ‘Na Palma da Mari: Entre Mulheres’, Fremder noted that without a menstrual cycle, identifying premenstrual syndrome (PMS) symptoms has become an abstract process, as she lacks the concrete physical reference of a period to track mood fluctuations.

Fremder also shared her experiences using cycle-tracking applications, noting that even when she was menstruating, the timing of symptoms often surprised her. The discussion touched upon how hormonal changes can occur even without menstruation; for instance, endocrinologist Dr. Thais Alves explained that intrauterine devices (IUDs) can prevent menstruation without stopping ovulation, meaning PMS symptoms can still occur without the usual physical indicators.
