Camila Mendes to star in and produce ‘Upgraded 2’

Camila Mendes is set to return as the lead actor and producer for ‘Upgraded 2’, the sequel to her 2024 romantic comedy for Amazon MGM Studios. Production for the film is scheduled to begin this month in Italy.

Becca Gleason will direct the follow-up, taking over from Carlson Young, who directed the original film. The screenplay will be written by Luke Roberts and Justin Matthews, both of whom worked on the first installment. The sequel will be released worldwide on Prime Video, though specific plot details and a release date have not yet been announced.

The project involves multiple production companies, including Gulfstream Pictures and Honor Role. Mendes and Rachel Matthews will produce through Honor Role, a company founded by the pair to focus on character-driven storytelling. Other producers include Mike Karz, Bill Bindley, Lena Roklin, and Piers Tempest.
