Tyra Caterina Grant was eliminated in the first qualifying round of the WTA 1000 in Wuhan by the eighth seed, Camila Osorio. Grant, who entered the tournament as an alternate, lost the match with a score of 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-4.

Grant won the opening set in a tie-break after recovering from an early 2-0 deficit. However, Osorio took control in the second set, winning 6-2. In the deciding third set, Grant managed to lead 3-1 and later leveled the score at 4-4, but Osorio secured the final games to complete the comeback.
