Camila Pitanga to star in Clara Nunes biopic

Actress Camila Pitanga will star in the biographical film ‘Clara’, which depicts the life and career of samba singer Clara Nunes in Rio de Janeiro during the 1970s. Pitanga is also involved in the production.

Written by Janaína Tokitaka and Flavia Vieira, the film aims to explore the singer's personality, personal dramas, and contradictions beyond her public stage persona. Screenwriter Tokitaka noted that a primary challenge is representing the artist's authentic and intimate voice. The production intends to highlight lesser-known aspects of Nunes' life, such as her extensive collection of dolls, which she reportedly kept in a dedicated room in her home.

Clara Nunes was a pioneering figure in the Brazilian music industry, becoming the first Brazilian singer to sell over 100,000 copies of a single album. Known for hits such as ‘O Mar Serenou’ and ‘Conto de Areia’, she is credited with paving the way for other women in the music business.
