Camila Sodi reacts to potential release of mother's kidnapper
Mexican actress Camila Sodi has expressed indignation following media inquiries regarding the potential release of Armando Figueroa, known as ‘El Duende’. Figueroa is accused of the 2002 kidnapping of Sodi’s late mother, Ernestina Sodi, and her aunt, Laura Zapata.
While arriving at an airport in Mexico City, Sodi described the questioning as ‘superviolent’, noting that the subject matter is not only deeply personal and traumatic but also dangerous to discuss publicly in Mexico. The controversy stems from a legal injunction (amparo) granted to Figueroa, which allows for a re-evaluation of his case.
Sodi, who was 16 at the time of the kidnapping, referred the press to her mother’s book, ‘Líbranos del mal’, for further details regarding the incident and the emotional impact on their family.
