Camilo Séptimo pauses concerts following murder of keyboardist

The Mexican alternative rock band Camilo Séptimo has announced a hiatus from performing following the murder of its founding keyboardist, Jonathan ‘Honas’ Meléndez. The incident occurred on September 1, 2026, in a residential area of Atizapán de Zaragoza.

The crime was a multihomicide that included Meléndez, his pregnant wife, their three-year-old daughter, and a domestic worker. Investigations by the Prosecutor's Office suggest the attack may have been linked to an economic conflict. The violence of the event has drawn widespread condemnation and tributes from the Mexican music community, including artists such as Enjambre and Ximena Sariñana.

In a statement released on September 14, the band explained that they need time to grieve, heal, and reorganize. While they have canceled a concert in Nezahualcóyotl, they intend to reschedule upcoming dates in Ciudad Juárez, Estado de México, and Pachuca. The group confirmed they will continue their musical career in honor of Meléndez and will provide updates on their future direction through official channels.
