Caminha authorities detain suspect after high-speed boat runs aground
Portuguese judicial police (PJ), working in coordination with the Spanish Guardia Civil, have detained a foreign national suspected of involvement in drug trafficking following a high-speed boat operation in Caminha.
On Thursday evening, a high-speed vessel was spotted attempting to enter the Minho River. After failing to enter, the boat turned south and was intentionally run aground on Moledo Beach. The crew abandoned the vessel, which was equipped with four outboard motors and communication equipment.
Authorities intercepted the sole crew member as he attempted to flee the scene. While no large quantities of narcotics were found on the boat itself, a small amount of drugs was recovered from the suspect. The individual has been presented for judicial interrogation at the Caminha Judicial Court.
