Camino Bulgaria pilgrimage route to be promoted by Ministry of Tourism

Bulgaria's Ministry of Tourism and Metropolitan Arseniy of Sliven have announced plans to promote ‘Camino Bulgaria – The Path to the Relics of St. John the Baptist,’ an 81-kilometer pilgrimage route.

The route begins in Malko Tarnovo and ends in Sozopol, passing through the municipalities of Malko Tarnovo, Tsarevo, Primorsko, Sozopol, and Burgas. It connects the Strandzha mountains with the South Black Sea coast, integrating the region's spiritual, cultural, and natural heritage.

The relics of St. John the Baptist, discovered in 2010 on St. Ivan Island near Sozopol, are considered significant holy sites for Orthodox Christians. Minister of Tourism Ilin Dimitrov stated that the ministry will assist in the wider presentation of the route to incorporate it into the country's broader tourism offerings.
