Camino de Santiago pilgrimage numbers surge ahead of 2027 Holy Year

The Camino de Santiago is approaching record-breaking numbers in 2026, driven by anticipation for the Holy Year (Xacobeo) in 2027. Official statistics from the Oficina del Peregrino indicate that over 363,000 people have already completed the pilgrimage routes this year, representing a 6% increase compared to 2025. This trend follows a record-setting 2025, which saw 530,724 pilgrims.

Specifically, the Camino Inglés route from Ferrol to Santiago de Compostela has seen a significant surge. Between January and August, 20,660 people used this route, marking its highest registration in a decade and nearly quadrupling the figures from 2016. The route has become the third most popular path to Santiago, trailing only the Camino Francés and the Camino Portugués.
