Camino del Mayab receives NaturaTech LAC 2026 award
The Yucatecan initiative ‘Camino del Mayab’ has been awarded the NaturaTech LAC 2026 recognition, distinguishing it as one of 19 winning green projects selected from 397 proposals across Latin America and the Caribbean. The award, driven by BID Lab and co-led by C Minds, recognizes a community tourism model that integrates 39 ecotourism projects across 14 communities in Yucatán.
The project spans a network of over 130 kilometers of historical and natural trails through the municipalities of Mérida, Tecoh, Abalá, Sacalum, and Umán. It currently involves more than 240 people from various indigenous populations, focusing on preserving biocultural heritage and ecological conservation while generating direct income for local families through services such as lodging, guiding, and food.
As part of the Natura500 network, Camino del Mayab will gain access to catalytic capital—financing that prioritizes social and environmental impact—as well as technological tools, market intelligence, and strategic regional alliances. The initiative is supported by the Government of Yucatán through the Secretariat of Tourism Promotion (Sefotur) and follows a 2026 collaboration agreement between the state government and the National Fund for Tourism Promotion (Fonatur).
