Camino Portugués de la Costa reaches 100,000 pilgrims in 2026

The Camino Portugués de la Costa has reached a milestone of 100,209 pilgrims in 2026, marking a 25% increase compared to the 89,503 pilgrims recorded throughout 2025. Ana Ortiz, the Xunta delegate in Vigo, described the figure as “astronomical,” noting that actual numbers may be higher as many travelers do not collect their official accreditation.

September 2026 saw the highest influx in the route's history with 20,281 pilgrims. The demographic breakdown shows that Spaniards are the largest group (18,301), followed by Americans (12,095), Italians (10,655), and Germans (9,074). Common starting points include Porto, Vigo, and Porto via Tui.

In preparation for the upcoming Xacobeo 2027, Commissioner Marcos Gómez Román presented the planning lines for the Holy Year, which aims to place Galicia in the international spotlight.
