Camorra intimidation escalates in Campania as Casalesi and Gionta clans face new prosecutions

Italian prosecutors say members of the Casalesi clan's Zagaria faction carried out a series of attacks in Casapesenna, targeting the home of a Moroccan resident. The first incident involved rifle fire at the house's gate, followed months later by the placement and detonation of an explosive device near the same entrance. Investigators allege that Costantino Garofalo and other suspects coordinated the assaults to send a message and reaffirm the faction's control over the area.

In a separate development, a massive trial of the Gionta clan from Torre Annunziata concluded with sentences totaling more than 200 years in prison for its leaders and members. The proceedings revealed the clan's reliance on handwritten "pizzini" for secret communication and accounting, the strategic influence of Gemma Donnarumma—dubbed “Lady Camorra”—and the existence of underground bunkers equipped with video surveillance used as operational hubs. The trial highlighted the evolving methods of Camorra groups and the role of cooperating witnesses in undermining the organization.
