Campamento Placilla residents fight eviction order in Chile
Residents of the Campamento Placilla settlement in San Antonio, Chile, are mounting a legal challenge against an eviction order set for February 2027. On September 22, community members held a mobilization and press conference at the Court of Appeals of Valparaíso to detail their judicial efforts to prevent the displacement.
Legal representative Gustavo Burgos stated that the community is pursuing a civil action intended to challenge a recent jurisprudential shift. He argued that courts have increasingly favored large real estate developers by using protection appeals to issue general restitution orders that affect entire populations without individual due process or consideration of social vulnerabilities.
The families are currently pursuing legal actions before the Supreme Court and civil courts in Viña del Mar. They are contesting the due process regarding their homes, which they face losing to Inmobiliaria Bellavista, a company they accuse of engaging in speculative real estate practices.
