Campania allocates 10 million euros to tourism projects amid transparency disputes
The Campania Region has released funding for 56 projects under the ‘Le Stagioni della Campania’ program, allocating a total of 10 million euros to promote cultural, naturalistic, and gastronomic tourism. The grants aim to support local traditions, villages, and historical sites across various provinces, including Salerno, Benevento, and Irpinia.
However, the announcement has triggered political controversy. Mayors from the Lega party have called for greater transparency, requesting access to the evaluation criteria and official minutes. They expressed concerns regarding the scoring process, suggesting that some established historical events may have been unfairly penalized or excluded due to discretionary decision-making. They are seeking clarity to ensure that public resources are distributed based on objective and verifiable merits.
In addition to the tourism program, the region has also approved 3 million euros for the redevelopment of access points and road networks for the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Carolino Aqueduct in Valle di Maddaloni.
