Campania center-right rejects regional economic plan
The center-right opposition in the Campania Regional Council has rejected the regional Economic and Financial Document (Defr) proposed by President Roberto Fico. Led by Gennaro Sangiuliano, the opposition argues that the current plan fails to promote regional development and instead focuses on clientelistic resource distribution.
Critics claim the proposed ‘minimum income’ scheme drains essential funds from critical sectors, including healthcare, education, infrastructure, and transportation. The opposition has presented an alternative proposal centered on several key initiatives:
• ‘Dignity Income’ to increase monthly support for pensioners to between 1,000 and 1,200 euros. • ‘Merit Income’ to provide incentives for high-achieving students to retain talent in the region. • A new plan for the Circumvesuviana railway and improved mobility for inland areas. • Extraordinary measures for healthcare, including hiring new staff, reducing waiting lists, and strengthening local medicine.
