Campania coastal tourism shows positive August results

The end-of-August assessment for coastal tourism in Campania, particularly in the province of Salerno, shows a positive balance. According to Alfonso Amoroso, president of the Italian Beach Syndicate, growth was driven by a high number of international visitors, which helped offset a slight decline in the domestic market during June and July. The city of Salerno experienced an unprecedented summer, moving away from short-term “mordi e fuggi” tourism toward more sustained visits.

Regarding water quality, Arpac data for August indicates that the sea in Salerno remains generally healthy. While some visitors reported mucilage or unusual water coloration, these are attributed to natural phenomena caused by high temperatures rather than pollution. However, certain areas remain under restrictions due to historical issues at river mouths, such as the Irno river in Salerno and the Picentino in Pontecagnano.

A new temporary bathing ban was issued for the Marina beach in Agropoli due to increased microbiological parameters. In contrast, the Cilento region, spanning from Castellabate to Sapri, reported widely positive water quality results.
