Campania Democratic Party proposes fertility preservation law
The Democratic Party group within the Campania Regional Council has presented a new legislative proposal titled ‘Disposizioni in materia di preservazione della fertilità per fini sociali’ (Provisions regarding fertility preservation for social purposes). The bill aims to support women’s reproductive health and autonomy by providing financial assistance for precautionary egg cryopreservation.
The proposal, spearheaded by regional councillor Bruna Fiola, suggests a regional contribution of up to 3,000 euros to cover expenses. To qualify, applicants must be women between the ages of 25 and 38, residents of Campania for at least twelve months, and have an ISEE (Equivalent Economic Situation Indicator) not exceeding 30,000 euros. Priority would be given to those from lower-income households.
Fiola stated that the initiative seeks to provide women with more tools for life choices rather than dictating specific paths, noting that economic conditions should not be the sole determinant of fertility preservation. The proposal is also dedicated to Emma Bonino, cited for her long-standing support of women’s rights and self-determination.
