Campania opposition proposes ban on magnet and kebab shops in historical centers

Opposition leader in the Campania Region, Gennaro Sangiuliano, along with center-right group leaders, has presented a regional law proposal titled ‘Measures for the protection of the identity of historical centers and the traditions of local craftsmanship and commerce.’

The proposal aims to restrict the opening of certain types of businesses in the historical centers of Campania, specifically targeting shops that sell magnets and kebab establishments. Sangiuliano argued that the proliferation of these businesses violates the region's identity, traditions, and historical heritage.

In addition to protecting local craftsmanship, the proposal calls for investigations into how these low-cost businesses are able to afford high rents in historical areas. The legislation seeks to safeguard the collective memory and cultural assets of local communities through urban planning and landscape constraints.
