Campania region faces widespread hydrogeological risk
A national conference in Vico Equense has highlighted the extreme environmental fragility of the Campania region in Italy. Experts and institutional representatives gathered to discuss territory management, noting that approximately 100% of municipalities in Campania are exposed to hydrogeological risks, including landslides and floods.
Data from ISPRA confirms that Campania possesses some of the highest surfaces classified under high or very high landslide danger. The Amalfi Coast and the Sorrento Peninsula are identified as among the most fragile areas in the country, historically prone to erosion and geological instability.
Speakers emphasized that natural infrastructure, such as forest maintenance, naturalistic engineering, and the restoration of terraces, is essential for prevention. Experts stated that without specialized green industry interventions and programmed maintenance, efforts to secure the territory against landslides and water runoff will remain ineffective.
