Campania region highlights Roman archaeology and local gastronomy

The Campania region of Italy offers diverse cultural and culinary attractions, ranging from ancient Roman archaeological sites to traditional food production areas.

In the Campi Flegrei area, the localities of Baia and Miseno highlight the region's historical significance. Baia served as an exclusive Roman resort characterized by thermal springs and monumental villas. Due to the phenomenon of bradyseism, parts of the ancient city, including roads and mosaics, are now submerged and part of an underwater archaeological park. The Aragonese Castle of Baia currently houses the Archaeological Museum of the Campi Flegrei.

Further along the coast, the Litorale Domizio region, stretching from Castel Volturno to Mondragone, is a central hub for traditional Italian products. The area is particularly noted for Mozzarella di Bufala Campana DOP, produced by various local dairies. Other regional specialties include buffalo ricotta, smoked provola, burrata, and Falerno del Massico DOC wines from the Massico massif.
